History of the Department of English
The University of Medical Technology, formerly known as the Institute of Paramedical Sciences was founded on 30 December 1991. It was first located at BOC college, Thahon Street, Kamayut Township. In 2002, it was moved to the present campus in Aung San, Insein.
From its establishment in 1991 until 2002, the head and the staff members of the English Department of University of Medicine (1) took responsibility in teaching English.
In 2002, the department was run by an assistant lecturer and two tutors who were appointed as the teaching staff of the department under the guidance of the Head of the Department of the University of Medicine (1).
On 13 May 2005, Daw Tin Myo Nwe, the present Head, became the lecturer and Head of the department. The academic staff of the department now consists of a Head(Lecturer), two assistant lecturers and two tutors. The English course is offered only to the first year students.
