It is a great honour and pleasure for me to get the opportunity to lead the University of Medical Technology, Yangon.(UMTY). Our university was established in 1964 as “Institute of Paramedical Sciences” with four faculties. The name of the university was changed to "University of Medical Technology, Yangon” in 2005.
We are the only institution in Myanmar to offer a diverse range of allied health programmes namely Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, Physiotherapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Radiotherapy Technology, Health Information and Medical Engineering. This greatly facilitates our students’ access to interprofessional education with research opportunities and the experience of a “multidisciplinary team approach” to health care.
Over 2500 UMTY alumni are already contributing their expert medical support to our society. Our dedicated faculty and staff have remained consistently committed to the mission of UMTY. I hope that students who aim to study at UMTY will take advantage of our outstanding faculty and fulfilling educational environment. We are also collaborating and cooperating with universities in Thailand, Japan, Australia and the USA to develop educational programmes and research projects that will offer mutual benefits to the students.
In addition to providing a sound educational foundation, we focus on building the well-rounded personalities of our students through extracurricular activities like sports and various social and religious activities. And our goal is to produce graduates who are physically and mentally fit and who will become responsible health care team members.
